Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day take your daughter or sons to work day logo

Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 27, 2017.  Only students in grades 3 – 5 are eligible to participate.  In order for the student to receive an excused absence, the parent must submit the attached form to the school prior to April 27th and must also submit to the school a written statement on the employer’s letterhead verifying that the student participated in the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day by May 1st.

Community Forum cf

The community is invited to attend a facilitated community forum to be held on Tuesday, January 31, at the Jefferson County Middle/High School cafeteria beginning at 6:00 PM. As a part of the district administration's strategic planning process, the forum is intended to capture and prioritize stakeholder concerns, issues, and potential solutions to improve our education system. Interested parties can call the District Office for further information. 

Students Win at District Spelling Bee

Jefferson and Aucilla went head to head the night of January 24, 2017 at the district spelling bee. The night proved to be first-rate for Jefferson as the first and second place prizes went to Jasicianna Tice and Moncia Campos, both 8th graders at JCMHS. Congratulations ladies! We are very proud of you!

Monticello Downtown Community Christmas will be held on Friday December 2nd from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. East Dogwood Street will feature local nonprofit organizations selling homemade crafts and drinks, there will be also be free facepainting and free balloon animals!  The tree lighting is at 6:15pm and Santa arrives at 6:30 pm!

Florida Sales Tax Holiday

Florida’s 2016 Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 5, and will end at midnight on Sunday, August 7.

“I encourage parents and families throughout Florida to save money this weekend by shopping for the tax-free school supplies their children need in order to succeed in the classroom,” Governor Scott said. “Getting ready for a new school year can be expensive, and getting a tax break will help families stretch their hard-earned dollars.”

Throughout the weekend, Floridians will be able to purchase specific school supplies, clothing and footwear without paying state and local sales taxes. The tax exemption applies to specific items of clothing and footwear that cost $75 or less, as well as certain school supplies that cost $15 or less. Shoppers and retailers can find a list of tax-exempt items by visiting the Florida Department of Revenue’s website at http://dor.myflorida.com/dor/, in the “Current Topics” box.

RE-ADVERTISEMENT FOR CONTRACTED LEGAL SERVICES

The Jefferson County School Board seeks an individual to provide direct and professional legal counsel and representation tothe School Board as the School Board Attorney on a contracted basis.

Candidates must be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar and have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in the practice of law.  In addition, candidates should have general knowledge of administrative law (specific knowledge of education law is preferred), as well as the ability to analyze, appraise and organize facts, evidence and precedents in preparing legal opinions and write contracts, policies, procedures and rules.  Interested firms or individuals are invited to submit a cover letter, resume, fees and firm profile to the Jefferson County School Board, Attn:  School Board Attorney Advertisement, 1490 West Washington Street, Monticello, Florida 32344 by 5:00 pm, Thursday, June 23, 2016.  Any questions regarding responsibilites and duties of a School Board Attorney, please call 850-342-0100.

Please be advised that the School Board will meet in a Workshop scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 5:00 pm to discuss School Board Attorney selection.  Interested firms or individual are invited to attend and give a short presentation.  At 6:00 pm, the School Board will convene a Special Meeting where the School Board will vote to select a School Board Attorney with whom to negotiate a contract for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Jefferson Middle/High Summer School

The Jefferson County Middle/High School will be providing summer school for students who have failed Algebra I, English I, and English II courses. The purpose of this summer program is to provide these student the opportunity for credit recovery. Students will be able to earn credits for the failed course(s), and students will have the opportunity to take the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) Algebra I End-of-Course (EOC) exam or the FSA English Language Arts (ELA) Reading assessment. Attached below is the Summer School 2016 Contract that must be filled out by the student's parent/guardian. Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Jefferson County Schools will resume classes on Wednesday, September 7th following the power outages caused by Hurricane Hermine.  All faculty, staff and district employees are to report to work Tuesday, September 6th to do a safety assessment and address any & all department logistics necessary to run a safe school for our students.

JCMHS receives $25,000 donation Star Swain with Check

Jefferson County Middle High School assistant principal, G.Star Swain, received a $25,000 donation for the students of Jefferson County Middle High School from Toyota Motor Sales.  We are so proud of our assistant principal.  She is not only a vocalist, but she is a wife, a mother, an educator, a professional, and a doctoral student at Florida State University.  She is an example that there are no limits, only the limits we put on ourselves.  Thank you Mrs. Swain for living your dream and showing our students that they too can live their dreams!
