Every child deserves to be safe!

Please find enclosed an MBF Child Safety Matters™ lesson plan to use during October, National Bullying Prevention Month. The lesson plan is aligned with Florida Standards, and is being provided to you by the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Inc. (MBF) in partnership with the Florida Governor’s Office and Florida Department of Education, Office of Safe Schools. MBF provides MBF Child Safety Matters, a primary prevention program for bullying, cyberbullying, digital abuse and all types of child abuse. Since the program began in 2010, we have reached over one million elementary students across Florida and have received substantial data regarding the program’s effectiveness as a prevention program. Additionally, an independent evaluation by Florida State University’s School of Teacher Education from January to June 2-15 found the program to be effective at teaching students skills and strategies to prevent and respond to bullying, cyberbullying, digital abuse and all types of child abuse.

To help your students learn to prevent and respond to bullying during National Bullying Prevention Month, please forward this lesson plan to all Kindergarten through 6th grade teachers in your school. This lesson plan is structured to be used in all elementary classrooms, regardless of whether or not the students have yet participated in the MBF Child Safety Mattersprogram. We encourage you to support the ideas for classroom and school wide activities included in the lesson plan, such as the paper chain activity, when you forward the lesson plans.

If your school is not currently using the MBF Child Safety Matters program, it is available at no cost to Florida public elementary schools through a generous appropriation from the Florida Office of the Attorney General. This includes training, all program materials, and ongoing support. Upon the completion of the Certified Facilitator Training (usually by the school counselor), you would then be able to order supplies, implement the classroom lessons (2 per classroom), and you would then be able to realize firsthand the positive outcomes currently experienced by over 1,000 schools in Florida using our program.

The MBF Child Safety Matters program:

  • Will not impact your budget
  • Will help you meet state statute and policy requirements
  • Will help improve student academic achievement and your overall school environment
  • Is easy and practical to implement
  • Is supported by experts, trusted by schools and parents, and loved by students

There is no better program to protect your students from bullying, cyberbullying, digital abuse, and all types of child abuse. Get started today with this lesson plan, and contact us at 904-642-0210 or Info@mbfchildsafetymatters.org to discuss your next steps.

Warmest Regards,

Sincerely,

Lynn Layton
