This week we face a tremendous challenge – a hurricane of epic proportions appears headed directly at Jefferson County. Schools are closed on Monday, September 11 and Tuesday, September 12. Monday’s planned School Board meeting is being reschedule to Monday, September 18, 2017
General Population Centers provide a temporary place to stay during an emergency, and offer basic needs like food and water, whereas, special needs shelters offer medical assistance. The following shelters are open in our region – Jefferson Somerset School, located at 50 David Road, is open as are Lawton Chiles High School (pet friendly) located at 7200 Lawton Chiles Ln, Tallahassee; Florida High School 3000 Schoolhouse Rd., Tallahassee (special needs shelter). Madison County Central School (special needs shelter) located at Hwy 90 E, Madison will open on Saturday, September 8, 2017 at 5:00 P.M.
Please contact the Jefferson County Emergency Operations Center at 850.342.0211 for additional information or assistance. Prepare for the storm and stay off the road – we will meet this challenge together.
